Food In Fashion: 1st Place❤️🍕

Food in Fashion is a Charity event where all the proceeds go to benefit career development programs in the restaurant and hospitality industries in Texas.

Each year designers are paired with a restaurant, and we are required to design a garment with anything that we want from the restaurant we are representing. This is our second year in a row participating and Winning First Place!

This year our team ( all students from El Centro College) Keven Hernandez, Angel Gonzales, Lauren Fallis, Gerard G, and Myself , we were paired with Greenville Avenue Pizza Company!!!. Anyone who knows me knows, PIZZA is my life! So I was extremely excited to see what we could make.

The first Day we met at the Resturant we were introduced to the owners who showed us the most representative elements from their restaurant and we were able to try their pizzas (which are Delicious!!), brainstorm and sketch out our ideas. Luckily it seemed like this was all meant to be, all the ideas each one of us had were very similar and we agreed right away on what to make. First of all we all wanted WINGS, their logo is a Phoenix, so it just seemed perfect. We also agreed to make some sort of bustier that resembled an armour because a characteristic of the restaurant is that they call the employees that make the pizzas, PIZZA SLAYERS! So Making her look like a powerful pizza super heroe/warrior was the idea.

The head piece and bustier are made from dough braided and molded on to chicken wire then baked and varnished, hand cuffs are pizza cutters, the wings are from the to-go bags that have the logo from the restaurant and are held by the same leather holsters pizza slayers wear to hold their tools , the skirt is made of bandanas employees wear at the restaurant, hip pieces are made entirely from real pizza slices and melted cheese. Yes making it was torture!! It smelled so good and I had to make a huge effort to control myself and not eat all of it! Melting and draping the cheese was super fun!
I am so thankful for these great opportunities and for such an amazing team!! And our cool mentor Maria Luna❤️. And of course everyone from GAPC.
